Figure Drawing Intensive
August 2-August 6, Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:00pm, Cottonwood Center for the Arts, Colorado Springs, CO
The human figure, the most complex and beautiful entity we know, contains all the aspects that we, as artists, struggle to learn. We will explore the body from line, form, values, and planes, to gesture and anatomy. We will learn to focus on drawing from visual experience rather than from mental images. Students will discover how to work from simple to complex through the use of quick gestures and longer, sustained, studies. Interested students should have experience working with the figure or have taken a beginning drawing course.
Supply list:
18"x24" newsprint (previous students have gone through 200 sheets)
Drawing board (A piece of masonite cut to 18"x24" size works very well)
Sharpie pens (bring several)
Charcoal (compressed or vine. I prefer the thick vine charcoal sticks--soft works well on newsprint. Feel free to try any form to find your preference.)
Chamois
Kneaded eraser
Sanding board or sandpaper for sharpening charcoal
Large binder clips or bulldog clips to hold paper on to the drawing board
